Fancy Friday

Its here. For real. Its actually Friday! Ok, my weekend started yesterday afternoon but I am still jumping for joy (no really, I did this morning) that the weekend is here. I'm going to the Kreeger Museum for the first time ever (yes, I've lived in DC my whole life...) and then off to get my hair done. Pretty much a perfect day off.
The only thing missing is this dress.

I hope your day flies by and your weekend is filled with fun (or sleep...or both!)

Pajama Party

I love pretty much anything that Rag & Bone makes, but my bank account does not. So when I found this pajama style top at Loehmann's on crazy clearance I couldn't believe my luck! I add some of the chunkiest jewelry I have to make sure that people know I'm not actually wearing pajamas...

La Vie en Rose

There are lots of things I love; sunshine, chocolate, driving with the windows down, champagne, I could go on and on. One of my absolute favorite things though is really a place-- France, especially Paris. Its always been a magical place to me, ever since my first trip when I was 15 {Can't even believe how long ago that was!} The food alone would be enough to hook you, but the fashion? Ooh la la indeed!

While I may never master the elusive art of French women's style, it doesn't stop me from trying! Black and white stripes always get me in a Parisian state of mind, and well, I just love how it makes the red really pop!
Hey, its cheaper than a plane ticket...

Camo Chameleon

While I had an army vest, 2 blouses and a jacket, what I didn't have was a camo jacket. Shocking I know. I'd been wanting one for while, but just wasn't sure if it really would work on me, which means I wasn't about to spend a lot. Wonder of wonders, I stumbled into Urban Outfitters while killing time before a haircut and BAM! Just what I had been looking for. Oh, and did I mention it was 75% off?
Fate, I tell ya, fate.

Fancy Friday

With everything going on this week, I was thinking at first that I'd forgo the usual weekly post with some frilly frothy dress, waxing poetic on issues like twirlability. Then I thought about how we all might need a distraction, no matter how small, to lift the clouds a little.

No political statements here or social commentary. Just get out and do something, anything, with the ones around you. Its easy to forget how lucky we are not to be alone.

Dynamic Duo

There are lots of famous duos-- Peanut Butter and Jelly, Yin and Yang, Sonny and Cher -- but I think one of the most perfect is that of denim and leather. It can be ladylike one minute and then badass the next. Each material is so versatile on its own, so together they are unstoppable. Plus, it helps if you have at least 2-3 versions of each (in my world at least.)

I Pity the Fool

...Who doesn't get this reference. Sure I may not look much like Mr. T (I hope!), but I sure give him a run for his money in the jewelry department. The necklace and bracelet were actually DIY, and so easy its almost criminal (Step 1, buy chains and lobster clasps. Step 2, attach.)

I'd been lusting over this dress, and of course ALL Tibi, for a while, and when I saw it oh super sale at Shopbop I couldn't resist. After years of denial, I then finally understood the importance of a good tailor, but that's another story (and a very boring one at that.) So, without further ado...

Studs, Stripes, and a Semi-Suit

This outfit combines plenty of old stand-by's, but hopefully in a slightly different way. This is again my attempt at creating a suit-like look without being too matchy. What can I say, a girl needs options!

Fancy Friday

{image}

Is it just me or has this week flown by? If only time would slow down for the weekend, but that's rarely how it works (till I figure out time travel of course.)

Spring finally being here not only means warmer temperatures, but also signifies the end of my hibernation mode! I'm once again excited to wander around DC, explore new restaurants and exhibits, and absorb every minute of sunlight.

No matter what's on the agenda though, the time is always right for a little elegance and a lot of tulle!...

Have a great weekend!

Finally Free

...Of tights, heavy coats and yes, fur and leather. Its been real guys, but its time to pack it up and GO. While the seasonal changeover in my closet always gives me anxiety (its a massive project guys, but that's another story,) I'm gleefully giddy to be wearing this sundress.

Talk to me in July when its so hot you can barely move and I'll likely be curse any and all forms of clothing, but for now, its a fresh start. Time to say hello to some old forgotten friends and make room for some new ones. Oh, and patios of course. All the patios, please and thank you.

Checkmate

I've always loved the mod look, and when I saw Marc Jacobs take on it for Louis Vuitton's Spring 2013 campaign I flipped. Beyond perfection! Also, beyond my wildest dreams of ever affording it, so when I spotted this skirt on Asos for less than the cost of a night out, I had to make it mine.

Pearls and Twirls

While this may not be my twirliest skirt (yes, I do rank clothes by their twirliness), its over 60 and I have banished my tights, so I'll be twirling and prancing around the city until fall. Since I still do have to work though, pearls at least bring me a little back down to earth and remind me of the need to still posses a degree of responsibility.

Blazer: Marc by Marc Jacobs {similar} // Blouse: Piazza Sempione {try this sleeveless one} //

The Golden Age

I obviously have a giant crush on any and everything gold..and chains?!? Please drape me in them every single day. So why would I stop at just gold jewelry, when I could wear a jacket painted with gold as well?

I hesitated buying the jacket last year...for all of five minutes. Its amazing how much it goes with, and certainly perks up any outfit. While I'm at it, why not throw on my favorite pair of pants (yes, pants) that always make me feel a little rockstar.

So gold, coated skinnies, and oh right, an Equipment blouse. I know I've waxed poetic on those before, but seriously guys, I may need a 12 step program for my addiction.
