Downtown Tuxedo

If you asked me which I loved more, twirly skirts or sparkly jewelry, you would never get a response because I could never choose just one. Button down shirts on the other hand are hit or miss with me. I have had this one for a couple years and rarely wear it, even though I like it in theory.

It finally occurred to me to just add in my beloved skirt and jewelry, and voila, the shirt is back in rotation. While its great to successfully shop my closet, it also explains why its so hard for me to get rid of things...

I Want What She's Wearing

I think its safe to say that we threw away that antiquated "no white after Labor Day" rule ages ago. If there were any doubt left that white doesn't work when the temperatures drop, Rachel Zoe erases all signs of it with this look.

Not only is the all white incredibly crisp and fresh, the minimalist take on it ups the fashion ante way more than stacks of accessories would. Its a perfect palate cleanser from the heaviness of the season.

While she is of course wearing head to toe Rachel Zoe, where is the fun in that? No matter how much I love a designer, its very rare that I like to wear them head to toe.

You can mix and match them any way you choose, and they range in price from "I can't believe its less than a night out" to "Wow I have to sell my car."

Orange Crush

I've been lusting over the Tibi silk-faille skirt ever since it came out, but just can't rationalize buying it (yet at least.) Luckily, I already have this J. Crew silk-faille skirt! While its not as poofy and fancy, it does have pockets and so will certainly do as a placeholder.

Since we finally have sunshine too (I'd almost forgotten what it looked like), I wanted to go bold and bright! I think an orange-red so vibrant that it practically glows certainly fits the bill. As always, I never stray far from my trusty gold accessories.

Back on the Chain Gang

Here is another example of how I like to wear a suit-- choose pieces that are different materials, patterns etc, but all share a common color scheme and style. Matching suits have a time and a place, but I prefer to create my own.

Literally everything but the sweater are thanks to my mom. Her taste never ceases to amaze me, and always manages to find things I adore, but never would have thought of on my own.

Skirt: Red Valentino {similar here} // Jacket: Diane Von Furstenberg {old but thisthis and this are similar} // Sweater: Callixta {similar herehere and here}

Since you know I love details, here is one of the reasons I love this skirt-- there is a small layer of tulle underneath to give it just the right "pouf!"

Not So Mellow Yellow

On most cold grey days the most color I can handle is the color of my nailpolish. Something about that type of weather that just makes me forget I even own colors. However, then there are days like today where I look outside and say BRING IT ON. Sometimes you have to dress for how you wish things were, not how they actually are.

Sweater: Theory {old but this Vanessa Bruno is almost identical} // Long sleeved tee: Isli // Skirt: LnA Gypsy Skirt

Faux Fur Vest: French Connection {Similar here, or try this or this}

Bracelets: All vintage from my grandmother {Ebay actually has a lot of similar and affordable ones}

Gotta love a good daytime slit...and flat faux alligator boots of course!
Boots: BCBGirls {old but these Rachel Zoe ones are cute and on sale}

Fancy Friday: Shades of Blue Edition

champagne

Perhaps I should call this post "Finally Friday" instead of "Fancy Friday." Granted, every week I can't wait for Friday to come around, but for some reason the shorter weeks tend to feel the longest. I try to understand my logic {or lack of}, but its always felt that way to me!

This picture makes me happy for so many reason-- the perfect blue shade, the fabric folds, and oh yeah, a GIANT bottle of champagne surrounded by towers of glasses. I've got a bottle of bubbly at home I've been waiting to pop-- What better way to kick off the weekend?

Cheers!

A Perfect Pair: Camo + Leather

I have a slight obsession with Equipment blouses, and by slight, I obviously mean HUGE. When I want to look put together but not like I'm trying too hard, they never fail. Their fabrics and prints are fantastic, like this one and the floral I wore here. I'm currently crushing on this heart print and the amazing cut-outs on this one. Speaking of cut-outs, I have their Nixie blouse in nude but seriously need it in black--I love pairing it with leather shorts. Don't even get me started on the fact that they now make sweaters...

Blouse: Equipment {Sheer version here and I also love this t-shirt} // Skirt: H&M {old but similar here and here} // EarringsSorrelli

Blazer: Juicy Couture {old but love this and a more affordable option by J. Crew}
Fur Poncho: Vintage find in San Francisco

{Yes, I really did say fur poncho}

Necklaces {from top to bottom}: Astrology sign charm {gift but similar}, Max and Chloe Monogram Disc, Chinese Good Luck charm {gift but try this or this}

That's a Wrap

Dress: Issa {similar here and here or try this short-sleeved DVF } // Tank top: H&M // Earrings: Sorrelli  // Necklace: Vintage c/o my Mom! {similar here and here} // BraceletsOia Jules and J. Crew //
Boots: BCBG Rachel Wedge Boots {sold out but try these or these

I would love to say that I have known about Issa for ages and ages before Kate Middleton, but I could never lie to you guys. I'd been dying for one of my own, but since I am not a future princess, I had to wait until it was on Gilt and I snapped it up {ok and later a red one too but that's for another day.} The fit, the fabric, the drape are all fantastic as I expected, but my favorite part is the ridiculously bright aqua color {Doesn't quite come through in the photos, but trust me}. I mean POW--this baby pops!

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen all of today's jewelry on constant repeat, but I can't help it-- I love my chunky chains and these are my faves. The boots manage to give me height but also be amazingly comfortable and even appropriate for a metro commute (a rarity, trust me.)

Loving the pleating and layers!

This is probably my favorite necklace I own-- My Mom has the best taste!

I Want What She's Wearing

{Thassia}
Lately I have been drawn to monochromatic looks--the are sophisticated, slimming and statement making without being too in your face. Of course, if you're not careful you can wind up looking like a walking crayon--not a good look on even the top supermodels. Varying texture, shade, and shape help to keep the outfit fresh. Throw in the right accessory, like this animal print belt, to mix things up as well as bring the whole look together.

Lets start with the basics---

While I couldn't find an exact match for the jacket, I think this Elizabeth and James blazer would look perfect {plus its on sale!}

There is no substitute for a Kelly, so unless you're a Rockefeller {and in that case you probably already have five of them} just use your favorite black bag.

Fancy Friday: Sequin Edition

:: pinkie ::
I have almost too many sequin skirts, shirts, and dresses to count. Almost. Even though I don't wear them every day, its nice knowing they're there just in case. Perhaps I should call them my 'in case of emergency' sequins. While its entirely possible to dress down sequins for day {and a look I love to rock}, there is nothing that compares to an over-the-top-night-so-sparkly-its-blinding sequin dress.

I had this whole red/pink outfit in my head, but decided I'd save it for a day when everyone else wasn't already doing the same! Instead, its blue jeans, baubles, and boots for this gal.
