This photo makes me happy. Beautiful dress, happy girl and oh right, PARIS. Le sigh indeed...this time 4 years ago (exactly) I was in Paris amidst the excitement of Fashion Week. Though I've said pretty much every day since I got off the plane that I needed to get back, I still have yet. I guess life has gotten in the way, but that's not really an excuse now is it? Life will ALWAYS get in the way if you let it.

I'm in the midst of the fall birthday blitz (and eep! mine is just a month away) but other than that looking forward to a low key weekend. I've finally gotten back into reading and can't wait to curl up with my Kindle.

Fancy Friday

Its here. For real. Its actually Friday! Ok, my weekend started yesterday afternoon but I am still jumping for joy (no really, I did this morning) that the weekend is here. I'm going to the Kreeger Museum for the first time ever (yes, I've lived in DC my whole life...) and then off to get my hair done. Pretty much a perfect day off.

The only thing missing is this dress.

Silver Lining

If you have read this blog for more than 2 minutes (thanks by the way) than you know that I have a slight (ok major) obsession with gold. Whether its a chunky link bracelet or a gold sequin skirt, I just can't get enough. Lately though, I've been drawn to (gasp!) Silver. I'm not just talking accessories either.

Fancy Friday: Red Hot

Last week I became obsessed with the idea of having a traffic stopping glam red dress. Just the nature of being red elevates it from mere everyday status, but these take it to another level. While I am still on the hunt for my own little red dress, just looking at these gets me in the mood to go out and paint the town...red!

Black, White, and Striped All Over

I love stripes in any color or style, but my favorite has got to be the classic black and white stripe. Do I owe this love to my repeated viewings of "Beetlejuice" growing up? Perhaps, but regardless of when or how it started, I've never looked back. If you need further proof of my obsession, just check out my Jailbird post from this week.

Whether its head to toe, or just a piece, I'm definitely not the only one who's got stripes on the brain!

Style Crush: Ulyana Sergeenko

In my endless browsing of street style photos for inspiration, one face kept popping up. It wasn't just that her looks were stunning {although they are}, but her classic glam style punched up with a modern edge. From the first shot of her I saw {see below}, it was fashion love at first sight. 

After that, it seemed like every one of my favorite looks were hers...and I didn't even know her name!  As always, the internet came to my rescue and I found out that she was Ulyana Sergeenko, a Russian fashion designer, photographer, and street style icon.  

Whether she is going full on glamour or tough girly chic, she's always put together from head to toe. While I might not wear a see through mesh dress or skirt of made of fur to run errands, I definitely want to work in more of her old school glam in my life.  Between my Russian ancestry and my love of vintage, its only natural that I would be hooked on her-- I'm just not sure why it took me so long!

After a busy week, sometimes you just need to get back to basics. What is more basic than the classic combination of black and white? Of course, basic certainly does not need to mean boring! The color contrast alone is enough to stand out in a room.

I Want What She's Wearing

I think its safe to say that we threw away that antiquated "no white after Labor Day" rule ages ago. If there were any doubt left that white doesn't work when the temperatures drop, Rachel Zoe erases all signs of it with this look.

Not only is the all white incredibly crisp and fresh, the minimalist take on it ups the fashion ante way more than stacks of accessories would. Its a perfect palate cleanser from the heaviness of the season.

While she is of course wearing head to toe Rachel Zoe, where is the fun in that? No matter how much I love a designer, its very rare that I like to wear them head to toe.

You can mix and match them any way you choose, and they range in price from "I can't believe its less than a night out" to "Wow I have to sell my car."

Fancy Friday: Shades of Blue Edition

Perhaps I should call this post "Finally Friday" instead of "Fancy Friday." Granted, every week I can't wait for Friday to come around, but for some reason the shorter weeks tend to feel the longest. I try to understand my logic {or lack of}, but its always felt that way to me!

This picture makes me happy for so many reason-- the perfect blue shade, the fabric folds, and oh yeah, a GIANT bottle of champagne surrounded by towers of glasses. I've got a bottle of bubbly at home I've been waiting to pop-- What better way to kick off the weekend?

I Want What She's Wearing

Lately I have been drawn to monochromatic looks--the are sophisticated, slimming and statement making without being too in your face. Of course, if you're not careful you can wind up looking like a walking crayon--not a good look on even the top supermodels. Varying texture, shade, and shape help to keep the outfit fresh. Throw in the right accessory, like this animal print belt, to mix things up as well as bring the whole look together.
