Sparkles and Stripes

This is one of my go to dresses when I just can't decide what to wear but actually need to be somewhere ASAP. Easy, comfy, perfect for layering...no wonder I have it in the blue and white too! I am constantly buying fun sequin dresses and full skirts...but rarely pieces like this that are actually {gasp} practical. Maybe one day I'll learn. Or, I'll have a job where I can wear vintage brocaded tunics every day.

Pattern Party

Poufiness. Pockets. Patterns. This dress truly does have it all! Even though the two patterns probably shouldn't work together, they delightfully do. Now, it may be ages before I have any Peter Pilotto or Mary Katrantzou, but this at least gives me a little taste of the pattern play that they both do. This dress was a wonderful score on Gilt last year, amazingly, before midi skirts were all the rage.

This little number is yet another example of why I love statement pieces (especially when running late!) Instead of endlessly obsessing over options, you just need a few little accents and you're good to go.

Dress: Nanette Lepore {try this or this}

Rings: Vintage // Nail Polish: Essie 'Midnight Cami'
{Also had to include a shot of the layers underneath the skirt that give it the perfect poufiness!}

Necklace worn as a Bracelet: Spike the Punch

Ballet Flats: Sam Edelman {try these or these}

Downtown Tuxedo

If you asked me which I loved more, twirly skirts or sparkly jewelry, you would never get a response because I could never choose just one. Button down shirts on the other hand are hit or miss with me. I have had this one for a couple years and rarely wear it, even though I like it in theory.

It finally occurred to me to just add in my beloved skirt and jewelry, and voila, the shirt is back in rotation. While its great to successfully shop my closet, it also explains why its so hard for me to get rid of things...

Opposites Attract

We're supposed to get an inch (GASP) of snow in D.C. today, which means the city pretty much shuts down. Since realistically this means a little drizzle and slush, I figured I would save my ballgown for tomorrow. My favorite Spike the Punch Crystal Statement Necklace makes any outfit fancier. Today, I paired it with a J. Crew sweatshirt (similar), Max Studio faux leather (sounds so much nicer than 'pleather' right?) mini (my dream version), black opaque tights, and BCBG Rachel wedge boot (On sale on Gilt!)

And since its all about the details...
